2Move Left or Right
- One place left: value becomes 10 times larger
- One place right: value becomes 10 times smaller
- ×10 <- PLACE VALUE → ÷10
Each step changes value by a factor of 10.
3Number Periods and Decimal Rule

- Whole-number places are grouped in sets of three digits
- Read large numbers in groups of three digits
- The decimal point separates whole numbers from decimal parts
- Places to the left become larger
- Places to the right become smaller

- Move left to make values 10 times larger
- Move right to make values 10 times smaller
- Learn place names in groups of three
- Say the order aloud in both directions
- Cover the labels and recall them from memory
53-Minute Recall Routine
- 1 minute: Read the place names from left to right
- 1 minute: Say them from right to left
- 1 minute: Cover the labels and recall the order
- Start from ones, not from the far-left column
- Use colour to remember each number period
- Say place names aloud in rhythm
- Practise moving left and right by powers of 10
- Review after 10 minutes, one day and one week
